During the weekend the Old Boys travelled to Kolsva for the Midnight cup. Unfortunately on of the teams pulled out, but with great agility the schedule was reworked to provide a great weekend of cricket.
On Saturday the Old Boys played a 40-over match against Guttsta WCC’s Old Boys team in which perhaps batting wasn’t the strong suit of both teams. After losing the toss the bowling unit, supported by some amzing work int he covers by Graham, did a great job restricting Guttsta to 114-9, with their last wicket partnership putting on 60 runs. In return our top and middle order collapsed, going from 15 without loss to 55-9. There was a magnificent last wicket partnership between Manu and Jones (assisted by 2 runners) that took us to 106 in the 37th over when Jones was caught in the deep. Staffan, from Guttsta WCC, was POTM for his efforts with bat and ball.
On the Sunday for the T20 match the Old Boys were a few people fewer, but more focused after an evening of beer and BBQ. Winning the toss we started well with a 71 opening partnership in which Ayyappa (34) and Kerwin (64) rolled away the years and in the end of our 20 overs we were 158-5. With ball in hand, the 9 fielders worked as a unit and kept the run rate down with key wickets at critical moments we restricted Guttsta to 125-6. Kerwin was awarded POTM for his outstanding effort. Sathish also did an amazing job behind the stumps, not giving up any byes and taking a crucial catch behind the stumps.
So a mixed bag losing the first game by 6 runs and winning the second by 33.
