On a chilly Easter Monday Stockholm CC travelled down to Botkyrka to play Alby CC in a friendly T20 match.  Alby won the toss and put Stockholm into bat.

Hamza and Aditya opened the batting for Stockholm, putting on a nice 42 run opening partnership before Hamzah was bowled for 8. And then Abhinav missed a tricky delivery that straightened. Tom then came in and steadied the ship and after Aditya retired continued his partnership with Aarush. Flynn made a handy 8, supported by Aarav and Veer.   At the end of the 20 overs Stockholm had reached 179 runs, with Aditya 52* (9 fours and 1 six) and Tom 42 (6 fours).

Alby CC started their innings patiently but there were frequent dismissals that stopped any partnerships being formed. At the end of their allotted 20 overs Alby had scored 132, Marshal top scored with 20.  All the Stockholm players had a bowl,  with Ibad and Hamzah picking up 3 wickets, Tom 2, And Abinav and Pratyush 1 a piece.

With Stockholm CC winning match by 47 runs, Tom (Stockholm CC’s captain for the day) presented the Alby team with a signed commemorative bat.

We would like to thank Alby CC for hosting us.  And the efforts of all the parents who umpired, scored, got the ground ready or cheered from the side lines.

During the game it was noted that this was the first ever U15 game of cricket between clubs in Sweden that was played with a hard ball.  All previous games have been with a tennis ball or soft ball. So not only did Stockholm CC win,  but they were part of history being made.  As the club’s chairman noted, “It is fantastic to see the first real hard ball game played by U15s in Sweden. It’s especially gratifying to see it featuring children who have been a part of our junior programme from day one, when we started with 3 or 4 kids in the autumn of 2016. And all this is thanks to the marvellous efforts of the coaches, parents and children.”
