The U15’s closed off the season with an internal match played in the beautiful surroundings of Gardet. Seeing the boys out there on a beautiful summers day in their best whites I was transported back to the green pastures of SurreyJ

With 23 boys taking part we were able to split them into two teams with a mixture of ages and abilities across each team in order to create the best possible competitive contest. And what a great contest it was.

The teams were led by our two elder statesmen; Aditya and Ibad, both in their final year of U15 competition. Team Ibad batted first with Hamzah and Tom facing some very good bowling from Rishab, Ishaan, Nitish and Veer. Both Batsmen protected their wickets well and played sensible drives to pick up singles, after 6 overs the captain retired them in order to ensure everyone got an opportunity to bat.

In came Flynn and Abinav who started well until Flynn played a nice cut shot towards backward point only to find Banko standing there who took a simply fantastic catch which came to him at pace so was far from easy to hold onto. Ibad started with purpose with a well hit drive for 4 only to find himself in no-mans land when he came down the wicket to the next ball and missed it leaving an easy stumping.

Abinav went the same way and Aryan soon fell leaving Team Ibad in a bit of trouble. Vedant and Reyanch to the rescue!!

They went to work picking up regular singles and running between the stumps well to take advantage of fielding errors to make two when possible. They each took boundaries to build up the score before being retired (again ensuring everyone got to bat). Vidar made a mistake I’m sure he won’t make again when he stepped back and hit his own wicket. Advait went to work batting sensibly and picking up singles but unfortunately his partners didn’t fare so well with Kartek and Yash falling to some good bowling from Aditya.

Hamzah came back in to face the last few balls picking up a single to give Team Ibad a very respectable total of 97.

Team Aditya started quickly with their team captain opening with Ayaan and quickly scoring runs, by the 5th over Aditya retired on 25, finishing off with two very well hit sixes. Some good bowling from Kartek took its toll with Ayaan falling, caught behind by Hamza, after some very sensible batting.

Veer was stumped off Vedant’s bowling and Vishranth was caught and bowled by Reyanch soon after. Nishu fell to Kartek for a duck and some indecision in the running left Nitish run out.

After Ishaan was bowled by Advait team Aditya looked in a bit of trouble. Araav and Rishab then stepped in to shore up the middle order with some very good running to clock up the singles.

After a number of overs in the middle Araav fell to a ball from Reyanch which saw the ball go high and Tom take an easy catch at midwicket. Rishab made way in order to ensure that everyone got some time to bat but after Banko was bowled by Vidar and Arnav was caught by Advait, Rishab was sent back to the middle with 17 needed off the last two overs.

Helped by a bit of loose bowling Rishab and Rohan went to work and showed real grit and determination in their running both from the bat and byes in order to reach the target with 1 ball to spare.

It was a really great performance from both teams and it was lovely to see the hard work in training pay off. There was some good bowling on display and some very sensible batting with boys valuing their wicket and playing with a straight bat.

The fielding from both teams was fantastic, organised and focussed throughout. All the hard work and sore hands from catching practice paid off with 5 wickets taken by catches and some in spectacular fashion.

Over the winter we need to consolidate our fielding skills, build more consistency in our bowling in order to avoid giving runs away as wides and ramp up the firepower in our batting by practicing straight drives.

The professional and respectful way the boys play is a credit to Karl, Naveed and Manu. The spirit of cricket is alive and well in Stockholm juniors!!
