U13 Poolspel FAQs

What is the structure of the tournment?

The tournments is structured around having  many "mini tournaments" or series during the season.  The tournmanents will be held from May to September ,  with a break for school holidays.

In 2019 the matches were played on Sunday mornings,  from 9am to 12-noon. It is expected that will will follow that structure in 2020.

The type of matches played willl be Kwik Cricket.  That is 8 a side, 8 over matches wheer everyone bats and bowls.  A soft ball and platsic bats are used so that children can play their full range of shots when batting and bowl a good line and lenght.

How many games will there be?

Naturally this is dependent on how many teams are entered into the competition.

As tournament organisers we are planning for hold each mini tournmanent on a full size football field,  theis will enable us to have 6 matches played in a 3 hour period. Therefore we expect that there will be 2-3 matches for each team per mini tournament.

What equipment is used in the matches and what do we need to bring?

Matches are played using Kwik Cricket equipment,  that is a platsic bat and stumps and a soft rubber ball.

The "host" for each "mini tournament" will provide all the required equipment in order to play matches. So clubs that have entered teams do not need to bring anything apart from what you would like to use in warm ups and inbetween matches.

Why are Stockholm CC organising this?

There are two rasons why we are organising the U11 Poolspel.

Firstly, to develop our junior players they need to have games so that they can put into practice the skills that they are learning in practice. It is also important for our players development for them to socialise with other similar aged children with a similar passion for cricket.

Secondly, it is important that cricket takes a place in society.  Having a regular series of matches will allow us as a cricket community to take one more step in its integration as one of the official sports in Sweden, where we can show case young adults playing with passion and in the spirit of cricket.

Where is the series table published?

In the U11 Poolsepl there is no overall winner or placement/rankings of teams.  We publish the results of games on the U11 Poolspel website, however the objective of the tournament is to introduce children to a formalised competition and let the learn (and fail) in a safe space. Therefore to stop unwanted presure and avoid a "to win at all costs" attittude from parents we do not have a series table nor award prizes for winning.

Do we only play cricket?

Our primary focus is naturally is on cricket. However as organisers we see the importance of developing more than just the ability to bowl and bat.  So we will also, in conjunction with Stockholmsidrotten, organise additonal seminars durign the season that are relevant to the children playing in the U13 Poolspel.
