On perhaps the coldest ever day in May, and with rain threatening on the horizon, the Stockholm CC Old Boys turned up to play a SACS team at Gärdet Sportsfält.  Surprisingly, and maybe a first and possibly the last time it will ever happen, 12 Stockholm players showed up (albeit  Jesse did show up half way through our innings).  With 2 youngsters (Hamzah and Aditya) from the junior section joining in we were looking a good solid side.

It was agreed to play a 30-over match.  And Stockholm won the toss and decided to bat.  We opened with Aditya and Hamzah who,  taking the shine off the ball and setting up the innings, put on a solid 17 run opening partnership. With Hamzah’s and Jeffery’s departure in quick succession, Wayne steadied the ship moving the score on to 52, until he was bowled by McArthur for 9. And then in the following over Aditya was caught for 26 in the 13th over, with the score on 58. This brought Shrikant to the crease and with five 4’s, three sixes and 3 dropped catches he lifted the scoring along with Chris  to 144, before Chris was out for 34.  With 2 overs to go and the score on 179 Shrikant retired on 65.   At the end of the innings Stockholm had scored 191 for 7.

SACS started their response in a controlled fashion, with Williams and Harris opening the innings and it was not until the 8th over that Kshan made the breakthrough taking the wicket of Harris (26) with a wonderful delivery that he played and missed. Kshan took the next 2 wickets so by the 12th over SACS were 62 for 3.  At which time there was a solid partnership between Williams and Kerwin, which looked like they would take the match away from Stockholm. It was at this point to slow the pace of the ball Hamzah was introduced into the attack, in his second over he pulled a rabbit out of the hat and took the prized scalp of Williams (46).   As the scoring rate subsided there was also uncertainty also on should the match continue or not - another club wanted to use the ground for a league match, but as they had no booking we continued.  The match concluded after the 30overs with SACS posting a total of 150 for 5. Kerwin finished with 41, Hunter 19.  For Stockholm the pick of the bowlers was Kshan with 3 for 28 of his 6 overs.  Behind the stumps Aditya only conceded 2 byes.

It was a great effort from everyone in the 1st match of the season for the Old Boys.
